The Power Nationals 2006 Meeting
from Shakespeare County Raceway
Report and pictures by Richard Stirling © 2006
I headed down to Shakespeare County Raceway a little later than intended, but I was encouraged by the bright and breezy weather. The journey was uneventful, but I couldn't help noticing a generous smattering of the wet stuff just as I approached the turn off for Long Marston. After I parked up, I spotted the track crew busily attempting to get the track dry and ready for the racers. Apparently, the first pair of cars for the day managed just a burnout before the sprinkly stuff decided to make an appearance. The only good news was that, despite my lateness, I hadn't missed a thing.
Do you remember that feeling when you were back at school at the beginning of term? I can and since it's just a few short years since I left school (Ahem!), I certainly had that feeling today. Despite having plenty of static photography exercises to undertake during the 'off' season, I felt distinctly rusty as I popped the first pictures of the day. Looking at the mini-screen on the camera just proved how miserable those first moving efforts were.
Practice today was interrupted on several occasions by oil downs, a frightening incident involving Conrad Stanley and.... the rain. Full marks must be awarded to the efforts of the track crew and the organisers as when a meeting is peppered with breaks as it was, the whole rhythm of the day is difficult to sustain and inevitably, some cycles of qualifying simply don't get to happen.
I have selected a number of pictures from today's activities and have posted them into a picture gallery which you can visit by clicking just here.
I'd like to thank Lee Child, LA Racing Parts, Jerry Cookson, Tracy Cowen and all those associated with Shakespeare County Raceway for their continued support.
