The week after the European Finals at Santa Pod, was a meeting described as The Nostalgia Nationals meeting at Shakespeare County Raceway. I was not familiar with the event as in previous years this meeting had clashed with the European Finals and consequently, I had never attended it. Initially, I found myself strangely feeling reluctant to go and trying to find compelling reasons to engage myself in other activities…. Those thoughts were dispelled from my mind when a chum called and asked what time I was going to be picking him up in the morning. It was only later that I came to realise just how pleased I was that my pal had made that call and focused my attention on the Nostalgia Nationals. It turned out to be a great day out! Sunday 19th September proved to be a super morning. It was clear and warm day but it wasn’t quite warm enough to plod around bare-chested in your shorts and flip flops. Although that suggestion may well have met with the approval of some, I guess that if I had attempted such tomfoolery, I would have been hoofed off the premises by SCR’s sturdiest bouncers! We arrived at the track at around ten and hurried immediately to a favourite bacon roll dispensary and gorged ourselves on it’s board of fayre. After that was washed down with an excellent cup of coffee, and feeling fully refreshed, we set off to have a smooch around the pits to see what nostalgic hardware was available to have a look at. What a treat the day turned out to be! It was clear from the outset to me that I had been missing a treat, over the years. Cars, trucks, pickups, Rods and all sorts were there. I was especially taken with several cars including a Shelby Mustang, a chopped Humber Super Snipe and a Willys Pick-up - all of which I had never seen before. We really had a super time and it was with a heavy heart that the close of play approached at the end of the afternoon and it was time to return homewards. I strongly recommend this date to be put into your diaries for 2005! Enjoy the picture gallery!.
