Report and Pictures by Richard I. Stirling

The long anticipated wait for the new car from Nobby Hills is over. Looking fantastic in its colour scheme, the car was launched on the Custom Car stand at the Autosports show at the National Exhibition Centre on the 9th January 2004. Nobby is no stranger to the world of funny car racing, in fact he is, with his long time driver Owen Hayward, a true icon of European drag racing and has been a major feature on the scene since the sixties. To examine some of that glorious history, check out the web site at http://www.houndogdragracing.co.uk/ . The new car shows great promise indeed and in fact, it's a miracle that the new car ever came to be. Nobby had a  really serious work-related accident a few years back and he was lucky to get over that and to return to full fitness. Back to the show and to the stand, the omnipresent lady from Custom Car magazine certainly made close examination of the car and its' (or their?) swoopy lines a little more interesting. Check out the pictures below. Once the car is ready to hit the strip it will be a most welcome addition to the ranks of the Nitro Funny car class in the UK. The more the category grows, the better and surely another car of the calibre of Nobby Hills will help push that overall performance bar ever nearer to the 4 second and 300mph barriers. Sadly, Nobby's daughter Jodie was killed in a road accident on 7th April 2004 and we extend our sincerest condolences to Nobby and his family and we hope to see them back at the track soon. A proper appreciation of Jodie is here
